Sex
Education in the Philippines
Sex
Education in public or private schools has been a very controversial issue here
in our country because of HIV and Teenage Pregnancy growing and increasing.
The Problem with sexuality, it’s a turn off
for a religious country like Philippines when we talked about sexuality. More
on, sexual education can go against moral or religious beliefs of an
individual. Many schools do not teach abstinence-only, but to teach how to have
safe sex while many of the religious and family stress marriage before
intercourse. In the Bible, sexual intercourse without marrying someone, is a
sin. Teaching sexuality is not easy, most schools only teach it as a brief
interlude in physical education or health class. This is not enough time to
relate effectively to serious materials. Many parents disapprove sex education
because they don’t want their children to be
negatively affected or eventually resist their parental beliefs.
Teachers
are not always adequately train to teach sexual education to students. It may
violate their own beliefs or morals on the subject rather than continuing with
the facts. Students may still be subject to embarrassment or excitable by
subject matter. This can make for out of control classrooms if students take to
laugh or make inappropriate comments. Some of this, teachers may lack in their
proper skills or motivation to teach it because it might not fit to their
students age. Sex education may lead to untimely sex, students will start
exploring sex at very young age because of curiosity. Many students finish
their class without a good understanding, they only know that they should have
sex until they get married. Few Students will know how to use contraception
pills or other objects that use in sexual intercourse. Students may attending
school but some of them didn’t apply what they have learn. Do we think sexual
education can decrease the increasing growth of teenage pregnancy? Maybe it
can, but we need further information so that we can develop our learning skills
about sexuality. I never thought that Sex Education is important today because
Sex Education can no longer help if we have this in our country because we are
curious enough of what are the things that we need to know when we get old but
today’s generation, what we see is what we do. Some Filipinosare conservative
and values their virginity measuring it equal with their own dignity.
Sex
can be seen all over the media. Cases that are talk about sexuality can seen in
social websites by just one click. We can do what we can do in just one click.
Modern gadgets process what you do, it is very harmful because we cannot secure
teenagers by using modern gadgets. Because of what they watched, it may lead
them to use contraception pills. This is an issue that strongly observing by
the religious group or individuals. Maybe religions are letting people to give
birth, but they are against in preventing unwanted pregnancy by using condoms and pills.
